Tested & Approved

If hummus and baba ghanouj are your go-to five-minute snack like they are mine, read this before you crack open that container. A small-batch recall just landed over a hidden allergen, and sesame is exactly the kind of thing that sneaks into these dips.

What’s being recalled
Oliva LLC is recalling about 250 containers of Riad’s Oliva to Go Baba Ghanouj, Spicy Baba Ghanouj, and Hummus because they may contain sesame that isn’t declared on the label. The FDA posted the alert on October 9, 2026. No illnesses have been reported so far.
The products and dates to check
- Riad’s Oliva to Go Baba Ghanouj - best-by 10/10/26 through 10/14/26
- Riad’s Oliva to Go Spicy Baba Ghanouj - best-by 10/10/26 through 10/14/26
- Riad’s Oliva to Go Hummus - best-by 10/12/26 through 10/18/26
The dips were sold at gourmet shops and farm markets in Litchfield County, Connecticut, and around Great Barrington, Massachusetts. It’s a local recall, but farm-market finds travel home in a lot of fridges.
Why it matters if sesame isn’t on the label
For most of us, undeclared sesame is a non-issue. But for anyone with a sesame allergy or sensitivity, it can trigger a serious or even life-threatening reaction, and the whole point of a label is to let you avoid it. Sesame became the ninth major allergen that U.S. companies must declare, so an unlabeled container is a real problem for allergic shoppers.
What to do
If you bought any of these, don’t eat them. Return the container to the store for a full refund or a replacement. The company is taking questions at 203-266-5558, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Eastern, Monday through Friday.
The fast fix: make it yourself
Honestly, the quickest route to a dip you can trust is your own blender. Drain a can of chickpeas, blitz with tahini, lemon, garlic, a glug of olive oil, and a splash of the chickpea liquid, and you’ve got hummus in about five minutes, with every ingredient accounted for. Same move works for baba ghanouj if you swap in a roasted eggplant. When a label is in question, homemade wins on speed and peace of mind.
