- Yield: 4 1x
- Method: No-Cook
- Cuisine: American
Ingredients
- 8 slices deli turkey breast
- 8 slices cheddar or Swiss cheese
- 2 tablespoons cream cheese, softened (optional)
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard or mayo (optional)
- 8 toothpicks or lunchbox picks
- Optional: baby carrots, grapes, or crackers for serving
Instructions
- Lay one slice of turkey flat on a clean cutting board or plate.
- If using, spread a thin layer of cream cheese or mustard over the turkey slice.
- Place one slice of cheese directly on top of the turkey, lining up the edges as closely as possible.
- Starting at one end, roll the turkey and cheese together tightly into a log.
- Secure the roll-up with a toothpick or lunchbox pick, or slice into pinwheels for younger kids.
- Repeat with the remaining turkey and cheese slices.
- Pack the roll-ups into a lunchbox container with a cold pack, or store in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
- Serve alongside crackers, grapes, or baby carrots for a complete lunch.
Notes
For extra grip, let the roll-ups chill in the fridge for 15 minutes before packing — this helps them hold their shape and keeps them from unrolling in the lunchbox. Swap cheddar for pepper jack for a little kick, or use a thin layer of hummus instead of cream cheese for a dairy-light version. These also freeze well for up to 1 month; just thaw overnight in the fridge before packing.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I keep lunchbox turkey roll ups from unrolling?
Chill them in the fridge for at least 15 minutes after rolling so the cheese firms up and helps hold the shape, then secure each one with a toothpick or lunchbox pick before packing.
Can I make lunchbox turkey roll ups ahead of time?
Yes, you can prep them up to 3 days in advance and store them in an airtight container in the fridge, which makes them a great grab-and-go option for busy mornings.
Are lunchbox turkey roll ups keto-friendly?
Yes, since they're just turkey and cheese with no bread or wrap, lunchbox turkey roll ups are naturally low-carb and fit easily into a keto or low-carb lunch plan.
What can I serve with lunchbox turkey roll ups?
Pair them with crackers, grapes, baby carrots, or a small dip like ranch or honey mustard to round out the lunchbox with color, crunch, and variety.
