Grilled Chicken Skewers with Peach BBQ Sauce

Juicy grilled chicken skewers glazed with a sweet and smoky homemade peach BBQ sauce, perfect for summer cookouts.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into 1 to 1.5-inch cubes
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Wooden or metal skewers
  • 3 ripe peaches, peeled and diced
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)

Instructions

  1. If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for at least 30 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, toss the chicken cubes with olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika. Let marinate for at least 20 minutes at room temperature or up to 8 hours in the fridge.
  3. Meanwhile, make the peach BBQ sauce: combine diced peaches, ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, smoked paprika, salt, and cayenne in a saucepan over medium heat.
  4. Simmer the sauce for 15 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the peaches soften and break down.
  5. Blend the sauce with an immersion blender or in a countertop blender until smooth. Set aside half for basting and half for serving.
  6. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat and lightly oil the grates.
  7. Thread the marinated chicken onto skewers, leaving a little space between pieces.
  8. Grill the skewers for 10 to 12 minutes, turning occasionally, until the chicken is nearly cooked through.
  9. Brush generously with the peach BBQ sauce during the last 3 to 4 minutes of grilling, turning to caramelize on all sides.
  10. Remove from the grill once the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F. Serve warm with the reserved sauce on the side.

Notes

For extra char, sear the skewers over direct high heat for the last minute after saucing. Store leftover sauce in the fridge for up to a week or freeze for up to 3 months.
