Ultimate Mashed Potatoes

Supremely creamy mashed potatoes with rich butter, hints of garlic, and tangy sour cream for a blissful taste experience.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds russet potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup warm whole milk
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Place potatoes in a large pot and cover with cold water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat and cook until tender, about 20-25 minutes.
  2. Drain potatoes well and return to the hot pot to dry out for 1-2 minutes.
  3. Mash potatoes using a potato masher or ricer until mostly smooth.
  4. Slowly add cubed butter, stirring continuously, allowing butter to melt and incorporate fully before adding more.
  5. Stir in minced garlic, sour cream, and warm milk until creamy and smooth.
  6. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
  7. Serve warm.

Notes

Use russet potatoes for fluffier texture; warming the milk helps keep the mashed potatoes creamy; adjust garlic amount based on preference.
