For the Crust:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 cup diced onion
- 1/2 cup diced green bell pepper
- 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp mustard
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 8 slices Texas toast
- 2 tbsp butter, melted
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Drain excess fat.
- Add onion and bell pepper to the skillet. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in tomato sauce, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10-15 minutes.
- While the mixture simmers, preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Place Texas toast slices on a baking sheet and brush with melted butter.
- Bake the Texas toast for 8-10 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Spoon the sloppy joe mixture over the toasted Texas toast slices and serve immediately.
