Texas Toast Sloppy Joes

A hearty and flavorful twist on classic sloppy joes, served on thick, buttery Texas toast.

For the Crust:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup diced onion
  • 1/2 cup diced green bell pepper
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 8 slices Texas toast
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Drain excess fat.
  2. Add onion and bell pepper to the skillet. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in tomato sauce, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10-15 minutes.
  4. While the mixture simmers, preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Place Texas toast slices on a baking sheet and brush with melted butter.
  5. Bake the Texas toast for 8-10 minutes, or until golden brown.
  6. Spoon the sloppy joe mixture over the toasted Texas toast slices and serve immediately.
