Texas Roadhouse Smothered Chicken

Juicy chicken breasts smothered in a rich mushroom gravy, inspired by Texas Roadhouse.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Crust:

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 tsp dried thyme
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Season chicken breasts with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook chicken for 5-6 minutes per side until golden and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add mushrooms, onion, and garlic. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  4. Add butter and flour, stirring to create a roux. Cook for 1-2 minutes until golden.
  5. Gradually whisk in chicken broth, heavy cream, and thyme. Simmer until thickened, about 3-4 minutes.
  6. Return chicken to the skillet, spooning gravy over the top. Sprinkle with cheddar cheese, cover, and let melt for 2 minutes before serving.
