Soft Christmas Peppermints

These soft Christmas peppermints are old-fashioned butter mints with a creamy texture and festive red and white swirl. Perfect for holiday treats and gift giving.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ cup butter, room temperature
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
  • ¼ teaspoon peppermint extract (more or less to taste)
  • red gel food coloring

Instructions

  1. Place room temperature butter in a large mixing bowl and beat with a hand mixer on low speed until light and fluffy.
  2. Add heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and peppermint extract. Mix well until a firm consistency is reached.
  3. Divide the dough into two parts. Color one quarter red with gel food coloring, leave the other three quarters white.
  4. Roll each portion into a rope. Place the smaller red rope next to the thicker white rope and twist them together.
  5. Cut the twisted rope into small pieces and place on parchment paper. Let the mints dry for 1–2 hours before serving.

Notes

For a stronger peppermint flavor, add a few extra drops of extract. Gel food coloring gives a vibrant color without affecting the dough’s texture. Store in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.
