Monte Cristo Sandwich

A savory Monte Cristo sandwich filled with ham, turkey, and cheese, cooked in a French toast style.

  • 4 slices white bread
  • 1/2 pound deli ham, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 pound deli turkey, thinly sliced
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Powdered sugar for dusting
  • Raspberry jam for serving

Instructions

  1. Whisk the eggs and milk in a shallow dish.
  2. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  3. Assemble the sandwiches by layering bread, cheese, ham, mayonnaise, turkey, cheese, and another slice of bread.
  4. Dip each sandwich in the egg mixture and place in the skillet.
  5. Cook until golden brown on both sides and the cheese is melted.
  6. Serve dusted with powdered sugar and with raspberry jam on the side.

Notes

This recipe is a variation of the classic Monte Cristo, using a lighter cooking method by grilling instead of frying. It’s perfect for brunch or lunch. You can also use Gruyère or Provolone cheese for a different flavor.
