Salted Caramel Chocolate Cupcakes

Decadent chocolate cupcakes filled with salted caramel and topped with caramel frosting.

For the Crust:

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tbsp white vinegar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup salted caramel sauce
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Sea salt for garnish

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add water, oil, vinegar, and vanilla to dry ingredients. Mix until smooth.
  4. Fill cupcake liners 2/3 full and bake for 18-20 minutes. Let cool completely.
  5. Core the center of each cupcake and fill with salted caramel sauce.
  6. For frosting: Beat butter until creamy, then gradually add powdered sugar. Mix in cream and vanilla until fluffy.
  7. Pipe frosting onto cupcakes, drizzle with caramel, and sprinkle with sea salt.

Notes

You can customize the seasonings to taste.
