Mediterranean Chicken Gyros with Creamy Feta Tzatziki

Tender marinated chicken grilled to perfection, wrapped in warm pita with fresh vegetables, crumbled feta, and a creamy feta tzatziki sauce for an authentic Mediterranean flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs boneless skinless chicken breasts or thighs, cut into strips
  • 1/4 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 2 tbsp red wine vinegar
  • 2 tsp dried oregano
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup Greek yogurt (for tzatziki)
  • 1/2 cup grated cucumber, squeezed dry
  • 2 tbsp crumbled feta cheese
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh dill
  • 4 warm pitas
  • 2 cups shredded lettuce
  • 1 diced tomato
  • 1 diced cucumber
  • 1/4 cup pickled onions

Instructions

  1. Marinate the chicken: In a bowl, whisk Greek yogurt, olive oil, red wine vinegar, oregano, garlic, cumin, salt, and pepper. Add chicken strips, toss to coat, and marinate in the fridge for at least 1 hour or overnight.
  2. Make the tzatziki: Combine Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, feta, lemon juice, dill, and season with salt and pepper. Refrigerate until ready to use.
  3. Cook the chicken: Preheat grill or grill pan to medium-high. Grill chicken for 4-5 minutes per side until cooked through (internal temp 165°F). Rest briefly, then slice.
  4. Assemble gyros: Warm pitas. Layer each with shredded lettuce, sliced chicken, diced tomato, cucumber, pickled onions, crumbled feta, and a generous dollop of feta tzatziki. Fold and serve.

Notes

For best flavor, marinate chicken overnight. Use full-fat Greek yogurt for creamier tzatziki. Serve with extra lemon wedges and french fries on the side for an authentic touch.
