For the Crust:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla.
  4. Mix in mashed bananas. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients, alternating with buttermilk. Fold in walnuts.
  5. Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  6. Cool in pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
