For the Crust:
- 1 package phyllo dough (16 oz), thawed
- 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 cups finely chopped almonds
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground cloves
- 1 cup honey
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 tsp lemon juice
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Mix almonds, sugar, cinnamon, and cloves in a bowl. Set aside.
- Layer 8 sheets of phyllo dough in the baking dish, brushing each sheet with melted butter.
- Sprinkle half of the almond mixture over the phyllo layers.
- Add 6 more phyllo sheets, brushing each with butter, then top with remaining almond mixture.
- Finish with 8 more phyllo sheets, buttering each layer. Cut into triangles before baking.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown.
- While baking, combine honey, water, and lemon juice in a saucepan. Simmer for 10 minutes.
- Pour hot syrup over baked baklava immediately after removing from oven. Let cool before serving.
