Grinch Cookies

Soft and chewy green sugar cookies inspired by the Grinch, decorated with heart sprinkles for a festive holiday treat.

  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • Green food coloring
  • Heart sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line two cookie sheets with silicone baking mats or parchment paper.
  2. Cream butter and sugar in a bowl until fluffy, about one minute.
  3. Add the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla extract; mix until smooth.
  4. Mix in baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt.
  5. Add flour and mix until cookie dough forms.
  6. Add green food coloring and stir to evenly distribute the color.
  7. Scoop 2 tablespoon sized balls 2 inches apart on cookie sheet.
  8. Place one heart sprinkle on one side of each cookie.
  9. Bake for 11-15 minutes, or until bottoms start to get golden and tops are no longer glossy.
  10. Cool at least 10 minutes on cookie sheet before removing.

Notes

For best results, press the heart sprinkle onto the cookie immediately after baking to ensure it sticks well. Store cookies in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for up to a month.
