Grilled Cheese Sloppy Joes

Two classics in one: Sloppy Joes and melty cheese in between two slices of crispy, toasty bread. Perfect for an easy weeknight meal or lunch.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb Ground Beef
  • 1/2 cup Yellow Onion, diced
  • 34 Garlic Cloves, minced
  • 1 tbsp Tomato Paste
  • 1 tbsp Burger Seasoning (e.g., Kinders Caramelized Onion Burger Seasoning)
  • 8 oz Tomato Sauce
  • 1/4 cup Ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • 2 tbsp Brown Sugar
  • Texas Toast Bread
  • Mayonnaise or butter
  • Kraft American Cheese Slices or any cheese of choice

Instructions

  1. In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef with the onions and garlic. Drain excess grease if needed.
  2. Stir in tomato paste, burger seasoning, tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and brown sugar. Mix well and let simmer for about 5 minutes.
  3. Heat a nonstick pan or griddle. Spread mayonnaise or butter on one side of the Texas Toast slices.
  4. Place the mayo side down on the hot pan or griddle. Place a slice of cheese on each slice of bread.
  5. Add a few heaping spoonfuls of the sloppy joe mixture on one slice, then top with the other slice to make a sandwich.
  6. Grill until the bread is golden brown and crispy and the cheese is melted. Serve hot.

Notes

Using Texas Toast gives a sturdy base for the sloppy joe filling and ensures a crispy grilled cheese. Mayonnaise or butter on the bread helps achieve a golden crust. Adjust seasoning to taste for sweetness or tanginess.
