A rich and decadent sheet cake inspired by Elvis Presley’s love for peanut butter and banana flavors.

For the Crust:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ripe banana, mashed
  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a saucepan, melt butter with water and cocoa powder over medium heat, stirring until smooth. Pour over the dry ingredients and mix well.
  4. Add buttermilk, eggs, vanilla, and mashed banana. Stir until combined.
  5. Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. While cake is baking, prepare the peanut butter frosting by mixing peanut butter with powdered sugar and a splash of milk until smooth.
  7. Spread frosting over the warm cake and sprinkle with chopped pecans if desired.
