Fried Green Tomatoes

A classic Southern dish featuring crispy, tangy green tomatoes fried to golden perfection.

For the Crust:

  • 4 medium green tomatoes, sliced 1/4 inch thick
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. In a shallow dish, mix flour, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  2. Dip tomato slices in the flour mixture, then into the beaten eggs, and finally coat with cornmeal.
  3. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  4. Fry tomato slices in batches until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  5. Drain on paper towels and serve warm.
