Dolly’s Chicken and Stuffing Casserole

A classic Southern comfort food casserole combining tender shredded chicken, seasoned stuffing mix, cream of chicken soup, sour cream, and chicken broth for a creamy, hearty dish with a crispy stuffing topping.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups cooked shredded chicken (about 3 large breasts)
  • 1 box (6 oz) stuffing mix (e.g., Stove Top)
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of chicken soup
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, combine shredded chicken, cream of chicken soup, sour cream, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth and creamy.
  3. Spread the chicken mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  4. In a separate bowl, toss the stuffing mix with melted butter until evenly coated.
  5. Gradually add chicken broth to the stuffing mix, stirring until moist but not soggy.
  6. Evenly spread the stuffing mixture over the chicken layer, covering completely without pressing down.
  7. Bake for 35-40 minutes until the top is golden brown and crispy and edges are bubbling.
  8. Let the casserole rest for 5-10 minutes before serving to set.

Notes

This casserole is best served warm and benefits from a resting period after baking to allow it to set for easier serving. You can adjust seasoning to taste and add optional herbs or spices for extra flavor.
