  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon apple pie spice
  • 5 tablespoons ground cinnamon, divided
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • Olive oil nonstick cooking spray
  • Caramel sauce or powdered sugar glaze (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. Peel the apples and cut each into 1/2 inch wedges.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, apple pie spice, and 4 tablespoons of cinnamon.
  3. Transfer the flour mixture to a container with a lid, add apple wedges, cover, and shake vigorously to coat all sides.
  4. Remove apple wedges with a slotted spoon, shaking off excess flour mixture, and place on a plate.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk eggs and vanilla extract.
  6. Dredge apple wedges in the egg mixture, then return them to the flour mixture container and shake again for a second coating.
  7. In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and remaining 1 tablespoon cinnamon; set aside.

  9. Spray the top of the apples with olive oil spray and sprinkle half of the cinnamon sugar mixture over them.
  10. Cook at 350°F for 6 minutes.
  11. Flip the apple fries, spray again with olive oil spray, sprinkle with remaining cinnamon sugar, and cook for another 6 minutes.
  12. Serve warm with caramel sauce or powdered sugar glaze if desired.

Notes

For best results, use firm apples like Gala or Honeycrisp. The double coating ensures a crispy exterior. Serve immediately for optimal crispness, and pair with caramel sauce for a classic flavor combination.
