Christmas Sugar Cookie Bars

Soft and chewy sugar cookie bars topped with creamy cream cheese frosting and festive Christmas sprinkles, perfect for holiday celebrations.

  • 1 stick butter, room temperature
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 heaping tablespoon Christmas sprinkles
  • For the frosting:
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 stick butter, room temperature
  • 3 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • Additional Christmas sprinkles for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare a 9×9 inch baking pan by lining with parchment paper or spraying with nonstick spray.
  2. In a large bowl, beat together the butter and sugar until fluffy.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract, beating until well combined.
  4. Mix in the flour and baking powder until a thick dough forms.
  5. Fold in the Christmas sprinkles.
  6. Press the dough evenly into the prepared baking pan.
  7. Bake for 16 to 20 minutes or until just firm and lightly browned around the edges.
  8. Remove from oven and allow to cool completely in the pan.
  9. To make the frosting, beat together powdered sugar, butter, and cream cheese until smooth.
  10. Add vanilla extract and milk, beating until creamy and spreadable.
  11. Spread the frosting evenly over the cooled cookie bars.
  12. Sprinkle additional Christmas sprinkles on top for decoration.
  13. Cut into bars and serve.

Notes

For best results, ensure the cookie bars are completely cooled before frosting to prevent melting. Use room temperature ingredients for smooth frosting. These bars can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
