Christmas Lasagna

A festive, hearty lasagna combining ground beef and Italian sausage in a rich sauce layered with seasoned ricotta and plenty of mozzarella cheese, perfect for holiday celebrations.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 no-boil lasagna noodles
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 1 tbsp parsley
  • 1/4 tsp oregano
  • 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 16 oz mozzarella cheese slices or 4 cups shredded mozzarella
  • 8 oz Italian sausage
  • 8 oz lean ground beef
  • 26 oz pasta sauce
  • 1 cup water

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Use a deep 11 x 7-inch or 13 x 9-inch pan.
  2. In a large skillet, brown ground beef, breaking up large clumps. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a saucepan with 1/2 cup water, bring Italian sausage to a boil, then cover, reduce heat and simmer 10 minutes. Drain, cool slightly, and slice thinly.
  4. Mix ricotta, parsley, oregano, and parmesan cheese in a small bowl.
  5. In a large bowl, mix pasta sauce, water, and ground beef.
  6. Spread 1 1/2 cups of the sauce mixture on the bottom of the pan. Lay 3 lasagna noodles across the bottom.
  7. Spread 1/3 of the ricotta mixture over noodles, then 1/3 of the mozzarella, then distribute 1/3 of the sausage slices on top. Drizzle 1/3 of the sauce mixture over all.
  8. Repeat layers two more times.
  9. Top with the last 3 noodles, spread remaining sauce over the noodles, and sprinkle with additional shredded mozzarella if desired.
  10. Cover with foil and bake for about 45 minutes until bubbly and heated through. Remove foil for last 10 minutes to brown cheese.

Notes

Use no-boil noodles for convenience, but you can pre-soak them if desired. To add extra festive flair, you can top with a decorative pattern of bell pepper slices. Let the lasagna rest 15 minutes before slicing to set properly.
