A rich and decadent chocolate cake layered with creamy peanut butter frosting.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Crust:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla to the dry ingredients. Mix until well combined.
  4. Stir in boiling water until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thin.
  5. Pour batter evenly into the prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  6. Let cakes cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. For the frosting, beat peanut butter and butter until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar, then heavy cream, until fluffy.
  8. Frost the cooled cake layers with the peanut butter frosting.
