BBQ Brisket Sandwich

Tender and juicy barbecue brisket sandwiches with a rich red wine barbecue sauce, topped with caraway coleslaw for a flavorful finish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 pounds brisket
  • Kosher salt, to taste
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup tomato paste
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons mustard powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • Caraway coleslaw (for topping)
  • Sandwich buns

Instructions

  1. Season the brisket all over with kosher salt.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together red wine, ketchup, tomato paste, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard powder, onion powder, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper to make the barbecue sauce.
  3. Place the brisket in a slow cooker fat side up and pour the barbecue sauce over it, coating the meat.
  4. Cook on high for 4 to 5 hours until the brisket is tender and easily shredded.
  5. Remove the brisket from the slow cooker and slice or shred as desired.
  6. Assemble the sandwich by placing brisket on sandwich buns and topping with caraway coleslaw.

Notes

Using a slow cooker allows the brisket to become tender and infused with rich barbecue flavors. The caraway coleslaw adds a refreshing crunch and a touch of spice that complements the meat.
