Braised Chicken with Balsamic Vinegar

A simple and flavorful braised chicken dish featuring tender chicken pieces cooked in a rich balsamic vinegar sauce with garlic and herbs.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 1 tablespoon honey (optional)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Season chicken thighs generously with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add chicken thighs, skin-side down, and cook until golden brown, about 5-6 minutes per side. Remove chicken and set aside.
  3. Add minced garlic to the skillet and cook for 1 minute until fragrant. Pour in balsamic vinegar, chicken broth, thyme, rosemary, and honey (if using). Stir to combine and bring to a simmer.
  4. Return chicken to the skillet, nestling it into the sauce. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 25-30 minutes, or until chicken is cooked through and tender.
  5. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

For a richer sauce, you can reduce the braising liquid by simmering uncovered for a few extra minutes. Serve over mashed potatoes or polenta for a comforting meal.
